Live Life!
Monday, May 3rd, 2010
I went to my dad’s house and spoke to my stepmother. She explained that she had a rough week because her best friend died. The lady had a disease that attacks your organs. My stepmother explained that she had been caring for her friend the weeks leading up to her death and learned so much about life during that time.

Alma (my stepmom) said that her friend had come to grasp the situation so well that she had planned her own funeral. It was very weird…she wrote her own obituary, and even purchased all the outfits for everyone to wear at her funeral.
I saw this as a very drastic approach to coping with death, however that’s what she wanted so everyone respected it.
At 25, I have not had to deal with too many deaths, especially not my best friends. The one thing I took away from my talk with my stepmom was that you never know what tomorrow brings, what God has instore and to make the best out of every moment of every day!

It’s Not Just a Man’s World
Friday, April 9th, 2010

My girlfriend and I went to Indianapolis for the NCAA Men’s Final Four with one of my girlfriend’s who is also an entrepreneur. We decided to pack our bags, hit the road and go to Indy to network. So, we got on LinkedIn, Facebook and our email to start letting business contacts know that we would be in town and ready to network with other professionals. We were welcomed with open arms by the business community. As professionals in the sports world, this was the ideal environment for us to be in.

We were able to rub shoulders and talk business with NCAA players and coaches, perspective sponsors and all around good people. Although the sports world is very male-dominated, I must say that overall I have found the males and females in the industry to be very welcoming and able to open doors for individuals like my friend an myself. I am so happy that we decided to take this trip. It was well worth the 4.5 hour drive, cornfields and bad radio!

Me being escorted
-
I don’t know if it’s just me, but there are certain things that happen to me that makes me wonder if these types of things only happen to me. So, my mom like this happened today…
I had a lunch meeting with a couple friends to go over some upcoming projects, and brought my dog Chase (he comes with me everywhere). The area of town we met in has a lot of construction, and is right by the border to get to Canada. So, after he meeting, I took Chase and headed on the freeway to get home. As I’m driving on the Interstate ramp (I-75), I started seeing signs stating that I was about to enter the Bridge to Canada in the cars section. So I hurry and swerve off that and wind up with all these 18-Wheeler, Semi Trucks. I’m driving and trying to figure out how to get to the street and next thing you know, I’m at the gate to enter Canada. I explained to the man that I was simply trying to drive home and wound up over there some how.
He asked for my driver’s license and handed me a clipboard of paperwork. I was happy to see that there were about 20 other people on this “turn around” list, so it made me not feel like such a ditz. I filled out my paperwork and he gave me signs to put in my windshield. He told me to drive to my right and wait there for a Customs person to escort me back to Detroit. I immediately began to think about having my car searched, Customs thinking I was smuggling drugs through my puppy and taking him from me, etc…my brain went WAY off. After about 45 mins of paperwork and Customs escorts, I was able to make it to the D! I swear, stuff like this seems to only happen to me…
